Udhampur village still without piped water | | | Ashwani Sharma
Early Times Report
Udhampur, June 18: Believe it or not, even after over seven decades of independence Bagliya village of Panchayat Darsoo in Block Jaganoo, Udhampur is without the facility of potable water. “The village of bagliya is thirsty for decades and no one is bothered,” said Qasim mohd 70 adding that he never saw tap water in his village. “Many times we approached the concerned authorities for facility of potable water but they just gave hollow assurances. The water tanker comes once in a week and that is not enough,” he claimed. Many others in the village claimed that they are forced to drink the dirty water from a nearby spring which is totally open and in bad shape. A house wife said that water in the spring is the only source of water and as it remains dry during April to July the people suffer due to want of water. Subash Chander, Sarpanch of Darsoo said that due to the lack of concern from the authorities, hundreds of inhabitants of village Bagliya and other adjoining areas of the Panchayat live without tap water even in digital India. He said that there is a water tank but there are no pipes for giving the tap connection to locals. The Executive Engineer of Jal Shakti Department Udhampur said that the department has provided water tanker on weekly basis adding that they are working on project under Jal Jeevan Mission for providing the tap water facilities. |
