Jammu, June 18: To mark the martyrdom day of Rani Jhansi, Freedom Fighters Memorial Association (FFMA) on Friday organised a programme to pay tributes to Rani Lakshmi Bhai, Jhansi Ki Rani. The programme was held at Dogra Shaurya Sthal Amphalla which was organised by Ved Gandotra, the Chairman of the Association & Rajiv Mahajan, Vice Chairman. Floral tributes were paid to Rani Lakshmi Bhai with showers of the petals. The Chairman and the members highlighted the deeds of the Rani Lakshmi Bhai who started the first freedom struggle against the British Rule. In his address, Rajiv Mahajan said Rani Jhansi had audaciously stood against the tyranny of the invading Britishers. She became a symbol of women power even in the middle age when there were plenty of social taboos prevalent in society. He said, the supreme sacrifice of Rani Lakshmi Bai would continue to inspire women of future generations. “She sowed the seeds of freedom which eventually culminated with the liberty of the country from the foreign yoke,” he said. He felt that present generation needs to be educated and informed about the Rani of Jhansi and her tales of valour. Rajiv Mahajan said the youth inspired by such freedom fighters would easily overpower social evils like female foeticide, dowry, eve-teasing to make a strong nation. The prominent persons also present were S.S Balwal, President, R.C Puri (Former President), Karnail Chand (General Secretary), Pritam Sharma, Brij Mehra, R.R Raina, JJ Singh, Prof. R.P Sharma, Ravinder Mittal, Gajan Singh Khalsa, Sukhminder SIngh Maini, S.S Bilworia, Parbhat Kapahi, Dr. Kaith (Vice Presidents) and others. |
