KVK Poonch organizes e-awareness programme on balanced use of fertilizers

Jammu, June 20: To commensurate the 75 years of Indian independence, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch organized a webinar cum Farmer’s Awareness Campaign on ‘Balance Use of Fertilizers’ through Google Meet.
Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension SKUAST-Jammu inaugurated the webinar and Sh Arvind baru, Chief Agriculture Poonch was the guest of honour on this occasion. The webinar included two technical sessions viz. Role of fertilizers in Agriculture and Balanced use of fertilizers and Soil testing for better productivity.
Dr Ajay Gupta presented the benefits of balanced dose of fertilizers in cereals and explained the need for judicious use of fertilizers in the crops keeping in mind sustainability and health of the soil. He also spoke on the importance of cultivating leguminous crops in crop rotations as they fix atmospheric nitrogen in the soil.
Dr. Vishal Sharma Scientist Agronomy (KVK Rajouri) apprised the farmers about the detrimental effects of imbalanced fertilizer application on soil health, human health and environment and stressed the need for adopting an integrated approach to supply all the essential nutrients to the plants without harming soil and environment. He also discussed the methods of compost making.
Dr Sarabdeep Kour, Scientist Soil Science, SKUAST-Jammu explained about the importance of soil testing and advised the farmers to apply fertilizers as per soil test results.
Gurmeet Singh, Soil Analyst Department of Agriculture Poonch described the benefits of Soil Health cards to the farmers and added the need for balanced application and use of micro nutrients in deficient soils for realizing higher yields and benefits from crop production. During the interaction, the farmers put forth their queries and scientists replied to their problems. The programme ended with vote of thanks presented by Dr. Muzaffar Mir. The programme was attended by 40 farmers and extension functionaries.
