Early Times Report

Jammu, June 20: With the Jammu and Kashmir government facing major embarrassment in the wake of power crises in Jammu, a top officer looking after the power department in Civil Secretariat is likely to be questioned soon for allegations of failure on his part.
Sources said Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary Home Department, who has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer would question his counterpart in the power department.
Sources said the government has inputs that the official, who was also a spokesperson for some other assignments, may have been misleading the Raj Bhawan over the issue of power failure in Jammu.
It was reliably learnt that the said official was already under the scanner of the Raj Bhawan and that at a high level meeting he was given “a piece of mind”.
Sources said major consensus in the government is that the said official should be held responsible for the power crises in Jammu.
“See fixing responsibility needs to be top-down approach where the top brass needs to be held accountable. Had he(official) been disciplined in his job, his subordinates would not be negligent and Jammu would not have faced such power crises in these testing times.
You cannot spare the commander and punish his pawns in times of war like that against Covid,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
It is pertinent to mention that the government recently appointed Shaleen Kabra to enquire into the issues of frequent and erratic power cuts in Jammu region and fix the responsibility thereof.
Kabra is likely to “co-opt any officer for conduct of enquiry.” The enquiry officer is likely to submit his report within week.
Whereas on June 16, during a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured the people of Jammu division that a Committee will be constituted by the Chief Secretary to enquire into the recent unscheduled power outage in various areas, the power department continues to be under scanner.
