Early Times Report
Samba, June 25: The water filtration plant built on the banks along the Basantar river at Samdiyan in Samba district has been defunct for a long time. According to details available with Early Times the water filtration plant was approved in 2006, which was to be ready in 2009, but due to some reason the construction work could not start as per schedule. The plant was to be built under the UIDSSMT scheme. The first installment for the water filtration plant was released in 2007 and the second was released in 2014 of Rs 91.85 lakh. “Tenders for the work were invited in 2015 and in 2017 the construction work of the water filtration plant started, but in the past four years only the structure has been erected. Till date required machinery for filtration has not been installed. Once it is completed, there will be no water shortage in Samba”, sources said. “When the construction work of the water filtration plant started people of Samba were upbeat that the problem of water scarcity will be addressed but it has not happened, leaving them disappointed,” said a resident. The District Executive Officer of Jal Shakti Department Sunil Sharma told Early Times that the scheme under which this water filtration plant was being built, has been closed. “We have started working on this water filtration plant. Under a new scheme, and the plan has been sent for government’s approval, as and when we get go ahead from the higher authorities, the works will resume soon and the plan will be made functional without any further delay”, he added. |
