Jammu, Jun 29: A young person from Jammu and Kashmir is honoured with The Diana Award for going above and beyond in their daily life to create and sustain positive change. Upmanyu Anil Magotra, aged 20, from Jammu and Kashmir, has been recognised with the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action or humanitarian efforts – The Diana Award which aims to empower young people to change the world, promoting a culture that celebrates young people from all sections of society who have made a selfless contribution to society. It is the only charity in the world set up in the memory of Diana and follows her belief “that young people have the power to change the world.” Established in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Award is given out by the charity of the same name and has the support of both her sons, The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William and The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry. Upmanyu, a law student at OP Jindal Global University, has always been interested in human rights, specifically women’s rights. Since its inception, his ‘Open Skies Foundation’ has helped underprivileged women or women with caste and financial disadvantages. Women are hugely overrepresented in the informal economy all over the world. |
