Jammu, Jun 29: Professor J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST- Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir inaugurated Two Days’ Virtual Workshop organised by Division of Statistics and Computer Science to commemorate 128th birth anniversary of Late Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis on National Statistics Day – 2021.
Dr. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr. P. S. Pandey, Assistant Director General (EP&HS) ICAR, New Delhi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. In his address Professor Sharma, Vice Chancellor said that Statistics is like salt in food. Nobody realizes its importance when it is present.
But everyone feels its importance when it is absent. He was of the view that the fusion of statistical sciences in agricultural sciences is very important. The role of experimental designs, statistical modeling, multivariate methods, economics techniques, and data analytics is increasing day by day for more precision to assess the impact and to challenge the demand of the future in terms of policy and planning at regional and National Level.
Dr J P Sharma expressed satisfaction at the conductance of this virtual workshop in a wonderful manner and congratulated the organizers for such a huge participation of the delegates from all across the nation. He also congratulated the Division of Statistics & Computer Science and the team of NSD-2021 for organizing the National Statistics Day 3rd time in a row.
In his remarks, Dr. P. S. Pandey, ADG (EP&HS) highlighted the importance of National Statistics Day and also feels proud on the current year theme which is Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)- 2 (End Hunger, Achieve Food Security and Improved Nutrition and Promote Sustainable Agriculture).
