Jammu, Jun 29: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Govt. of India celebrated the main event of 'Statistics Day, 2021' through Video Conferencing due to ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic situation. The main objective of this event was to popularize the use of Statistics in everyday life and sensitize public on how statistics helps in shaping and framing policies for the welfare of people. It is celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Late Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, on 29th June, in recognition of his invaluable contribution made in the field of Economics, Planning and Statistics Development in the post independence era and establishing the National Statistical System. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Rao Inderjit Singh addressed the Statistics Day, 2021 gathering. Prof. Bimal Kumar Roy, Chairman, National Statistical Commission, Dr. G P Samanta, Chief Statistician of India-cum-Secretary, MoSPI, Mr. Pietro Gennari, Chief Statistician, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Dr. Shailja Sharma, Director General, MoSPI, Dr. Mamta Saxena, Director General, MoSPI, Dr. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute addressed the gathering on various aspects of the theme of the occasion and its importance. Kishore Kumar, Deputy Director General and Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Director of NSO Regional Office, Jammu also participated in the main event through virtual platform.
