Srinagar, June 29: Heat wave returned back due to surge in the maximum temperature on Tuesday after people enjoy about a week-long pleasant weather due to below normal mercury in the Kashmir valley, where a fresh warning has been issued for isolated rain, thundershowers, lightening and gusty winds from July 2.
There was no relief for the people in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) as the maximum temperature was 44.6 degree and 38.5 degree respectively, highest in the region.
A Met department spokesman said this evening that weather will remain mainly dry in the Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There will be no change during subsequent 48 hours, he informed.
However, he warned that there could be isolated rain, thundershowers, lightening with 30 km to 40 km per hour gusty winds from July 2.
He said though the minimum temperature remained below normal, the day temperature witnessed a surge and settled several notches above normal on Tuesday.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir recorded 33.3 degree maximum temperature which was 2.7 notches above normal. However, the minimum temperature was 16.7 degree, 0.6 degree below normal, he said.
The spokesman said the sky would be sky to partially cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperature would be 33 degree to 17 degree respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) top commander and a Pak militant were killed by security forces in an encounter in the outskirts on Tuesday.
Gulmarg, world famous ski resort in north Kashmir, where foot print of tourists has witness increase, received 25.5 degree maximum temperature, 3.9 notches above normal while the minimum temperature was 11.8, 0.4 degree below normal.
Pahalgam, a famed health resort in south Kashmir, the minimum temperature was 9.5 degree, 1.2 degree below normal while the maximum temperature today was 28 degree which was 2 notches above normal.
The water level in the water bodies, including Lidder river has witnessed rise due to melting of snow on the upper reaches.
Qazigund, the gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway which will remain shut tomorrow in view of weekly maintenance, the maximum temperature was 32 degree, 3.1 notches above normal while the minimum temperature was 14.2 degree, 1.5 degree below normal. |
