DC Jammu reviews implementation of Project Boond | Asks for rain water harvesting, ground water recharge | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 29: Deputy Commissioner Anshul Garg today convened a meeting of concerned officers to review the implementation of project Boond- an initiative of District Administration Jammu for conservation of water bodies and rain harvesting under Jal Shakti Mission. The Deputy Commissioner said that around 3 thousand works have planned, including rejuvenation of existing water bodies, creation of new water bodies, repairing of existing hand pumps, roof top water harvesting and creating check dams. The Deputy Commissioner said that more that 1400 water bodies have been identified for rejuvenation for water harvesting and ground water recharge. He also said that 734 defunct hand pumps will be repaired and more than 400 new hand pumps will be installed in the water stressed areas. The Deputy Commissioner also said that more than 300 government buildings have been identified where roof top harvesting structure will be established where rain water will stored and released back to the ground to increase the ground water level. The Deputy Commissioner further said that Irrigation & Flood Control Department along with Integrated Water Shed Management will set up new check dams at 33 identified sites to collect the rain water and recharge ground water level. |
