Early Times Report

Pulwama, June 29: Former chief minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that guns and brutal killings of innocent people will not resolve any problem in Kashmir valley. Mehbooba made these comments in this south Kashmir district while talking to reporters after meeting the family members of a Special Police Officer (SPO) who alongwith his wife and daughter were gunned down by militants at Hariparigam, Awantipora last week.
“It is a very painful incident in which three members of a family were killed. This act is highly condemnable. No issue can be resolved with the help of weapons. It is totally wrong,” Ms Mehbooba said.
The former chief minister said that brother is fighting brother in J&K, where entire families have been wiped-out due to this violence. “But, brutally killing innocent people will not solve any issue,” she added.
Mehbooba said that the son of the martyred SPO, who is working with the Territorial Army, should be given a government job so that he can take care of the rest of the family. “The son of the SPO works with the Territorial Army... but as there is no one to take care of other family members; he should be given a job under SRO 43 in civil department,” she said.
Fayaz Ahmad, his wife and daughter were killed by militants at their residence in Hariparigam, Awantipora late on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that two militants, including a foreigner, who were involved in the killing of an SPO, his wife and their daughter have been identified and efforts are being made to trace and neutralize them.
“Our SPO was killed by militants in Tral late on Sunday night. When his wife and daughter came to rescue him, the militants killed them as well. We have identified both the militants, who were involved in the incident. One was a local and the other was a Pakistani militant affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). We are tracing them down and will soon neutralize them,” he said.
