Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 22: The Eid-ul-Adha celebrations continued for the second day on Thursday though festivity is missing due to COVID-19 in the Kashmir valley, where people were distributing meat of sacrificed animals, visiting their relatives and friends.
Sacrifice of sheep and goats besides other animals also continued in the Kashmir, where weather has witnessed major improvement after three day wet weather. Children, who remained indoor yesterday due to rain, are out today in colourful dresses visiting local parks and other places.
Not a single local English and Urdu newspapers hit the stand today due to Eid holiday on Wednesday. Similarly, there will be no newspaper on Friday also as media offices, barring news agencies and some national television channels, remained closed today.
People were seen distributing meat of sacrificed animals among the neighbours, friends and relatives and poor people for the second day of Eid-ul-Adha, the festival of sacrifice.
In Srinagar people continued to slaughter animals in their houses and other places to honour Hazrat Ibrahim’s spirit of sacrifice.
Though people used social media to greet each other on the occasion, but had to visit each other physically to distribute meat of sacrificed animals.
However, recently experts have warned that only those who are vaccinated should slaughter animals and distribute meat in view of COVID-19 threat.
Major traffic jam was witnessed on Wednesday on Srinagar roads, particularly in the uptown, between Rambagh and Natipora, in the absence of any traffic police official. It was free for all leading to traffic jam for hours, people alleged. Similar scenes were witnessed today also.
