Separatists lose address, leaders like Mehbooba left red faced as J&K moves ahead | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 22: Abrogation of Article 370 has ended the separatism in Kashmir. When the Centre announced its decision to revoke J&K’s special status on August 5, 2019, Kashmir centric leaders like Mehbooba Mufti and others had predicted that Kashmir will burn and the separatists like Hurriyat hawk Geelani, Hurriyat dove Mirwaiz, so-called JKLF chief Yasin Malik and others will run a parallel government in Kashmir. However, all their predictions have fallen flat as the separatists have lost their addresses during the past 2-years. Geelani has taken retirement from the politics and Mirwaiz has not even uttered a word during the past two years. Others are cooling their heels in prisons. “Last two years have proven it beyond doubt that separatists thrived due to the support of mainstream politicians as they went out of way to accommodate them,” said an analyst. He said, “New Delhi taking control of J&K affairs has brought respite for the people. Separatists have been cut to size. No one in Kashmir has been left who will call for shutdown or orchestrate street protests. The henchmen of separatists are doing menial jobs as the funding channels have been choked and their bosses have been left with no money.” An observer said, “Had the Kashmir centric leaders, who ruled J&K for so many years acted against the separatists, situation in Kashmir would have been much better.” He said that when Mehbooba was heading Jammu and Kashmir she had announced amnesty for 10,000 stone pelters and had passed clear instructions to the security agencies not to kill the militants. “Kashmir centric leaders used to believe that keeping separatists happy is the key to rule Jammu and Kashmir. Had they acted like true nationalists, Kashmir would not have suffered,” the observer added. |
