Gunfight breaks out in Warpora Sopore, 2 LeT militants believed to be trapped | | | S Tahir-ul Haq

BARAMULLA, July 22: A gunfight broke out today evening between militants and security forces at Warpora village of this north Kashmir district. According to top police official that, on specific information about the presence of militants, a joint team of security forces including of Police, Army's 22 RR, SOG and CRPF 179, 177 and 92 launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Warpora village of Sopore town on Thursday evening. He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter. However the official confirmed that the exchange of fire between forces and militants took place few moments while. Here sources said that, two militants affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) are believed to be trapped in the area, more it will be known after sometime the actual number of militants. As of know, all the entry and exit points have been sealed so that no one can escape from the encounter site, sources informed to Early Times. They said that, heavy reinforcement of security forces have been called in to neutralize the hiding militants as early as possible. Senior police official from the encounter site said that, they don't want any collateral damage, adding parents of the hiding militants were called to communicate with the dear ones to surrender before the security forces, however they refused to lay down arms. "Shortly the mobile internet will be suspended in this area, and lights will be installed", the officer said hurriedly. The firing was on till the last reports came in, and more updates will be followed shortly. |
