CF urges LG to stop illegal extraction of minor minerals | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 26: Citizens' Forum (CF) has requested LG Manoj Sinha to look in to the matter of supply of minor mining material like Sand and Bajri being extracted from Tawi river illegally and unauthorisedly. Please note that the construction in Jammu city is going on but not without Sand and Bajri. We are surprised the rates being charged are Rs 4000 per 100sqft, which last year was Rs 1200 per 100sqft. In kathua the rates are fixed at Rs 2000 per 100 sqft. That too is very high. R K Chadha, the Forum president, said government had imposed a fine of about Rs 90 lakh on one of the persons running this business. A common man in Jammu is getting this material in a manner which always makes him guilty of buying stolen material that too at price beyond his reach. In full one year neither the government could recover Rs 90 lakh from the economic offender nor fix the genuine rates of the material. Since the members of the association belong to some political parties the department concerned is deliberately lingering on the matter while the sale of unauthorized material is also going on, he added. |
