SDRF, Police rescue two persons trapped in flood water | Rain ravages different areas of district Kathua | | Early Times Report KATHUA, July 26: Amid heavy rainfall since Monday morning, different parts of district Kathua turned into water pools thereby creating severe hardships for the people. The rivers of the district remained at high flow whereas in plain areas there are reports of water logging and damages to roads. Due to negligence of National Highway Authority heavy water logging was witnessed at Jammu-Pathankot national highway near Maggar Khad. Both the lanes as well as the side drains were flooded to such an extent that spot was giving appearance of outsized pond. The local shopkeepers, Vikas Kumar and Vinod Sharma, said that one can gauge the negligent attitude of National Highway Authority, Municipal Council Kathua, and District Administration from the fact of rainwater logging at National Highway, making them prone to several ailments. On the other hand, the flood water in local Khad washed away the approach road to new building of Medical College, making commuters to suffer a lot. In addition, two persons namely Dinesh Kumar (25 years) and Ajay Kumar (20 years) were trapped in flood water of river Ujh on Monday. Following the message teams of SDRF and Police rescued both. As far as Tehsil Billawar is concerned, the heavy rains flooded river Ujh and Bhini. The soaring waters of the rivers had affected Bather, Godu Falal, Kalana, Sadrota, Banjal, Bathwal and adjoining villages to great extent. At Basohli, concerned authorities said that the landslides on Basohli-Bani and Basohli-Mahanpur road had affected the traffic flow on the route. In Hiranagar Tehsil, the heavy rains had exposed the poor flood management of government. The heavy flow of water in the rivers and nallahs affected dozens of villages. The water level of Tarnah nallah suddenly swelled due to which several border villages remained cut off from Tehsil headquarters. |
