Budgam encounter; Al-Badr militant killed, LeT ultra, driver arrested | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 7: A militant of Al-Badr outfit was killed by security forces in central Kashmir district of Budgam while a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) ultra, who managed to escape from the encounter site in a truck was arrested alongwith driver in Pulwama. A police spokesman said troops of 50 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 181 batallion CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Mochwa on Srinagar-Charar-e-Sharief road in Badgam district in the wee hours Saturday. He said an encounter ensued when security forces were moving towards a particular house where the militants wee hiding. Militants were repeatedly asked to surrender, he said adding but they refused and continued firing on security forces. Later a militant of Al-Badr identified as Shakir Bashir Dar, son of Bashir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Goripora Awantipora Pulwama was killed. Shakir was associated with LeT before joining Al-Badr recently. He said incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-rifle with two Magazines, 32 rounds, one Chinese pistol with two Magazines, 16 rounds, one Bagpack and one Pouch were recovered from the site of encounter. However, a lead was received that a LeT militant identified as Shabir Ahmad Najar, a resident of Wuyan Khrew had escaped from the encounter site in a truck. He said a CASO was also launched at Mantaqi Colony Khrew during which Shabir Najar and truck driver Mohammad Shafi Dar, resident of Gratwani Mohalla Khrew were arrested. Truck has also been seized, he added. Spokesman said incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one Chinese Pistol, one Pistol Magazine, seven Pistol rounds, two AK-Magazines, 50 AK-rounds, one Chinese grenade, 5Kgs IED (destroyed on spot) were also recovered from the site. |
