‘J&K’s new film policy copy, cut and paste’ | It will help outsiders, local artists left to fend on their own | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7: Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, Mushtaq Kak, on Saturday described the new film policy announced by the J&K Government as “copy, cut paste, policy.” Kak in an interview with Early Times said, “The new film policy won’t benefit the regional artists. It will only help the outsiders, not the local artists.” He said, “The present dispensation seems clueless about the regional film industry like Kashmiri, Dogri, Pahari and Poonchi. Our artists have worked extensively in these languages. We had DD Kashir, Jammu channel but these channels have been dismantled.” Kak said that the present regime seems least bothered about the plight of local artists. “Nor it seems interested in promoting the regional film industry,” he said, “Instead of the film policy the government should have come up with a cultural policy. We have a Kala Kendra in Jammu but it’s of no use.” “The new film policy will benefit outsiders. They will use regional artists as a part of the crowd and nothing else. Artists have been turned into servants. If the government really wants to do something for the local artists then it should come up with a policy for regional artists,” he said. “The government should look towards Bhojpuri, Punjabi and other film industries. The new film policy has left the local artists to fend on their own,” he added. |
