On nomination papers, Sameena Hussain has shown herself a resident of Thajiwara Achabal, however the complaint claims that she was married off two decades ago and is residing at Kanihama in Budgam district. “Sameena Hussain is a qualified voter at Serial Number 118 while as her husband Ishfaq Ahmad figures at serial Number 117 in the electoral roll and the said facts have been concealed by Sameena Hussain in order to qualify for the contesting elections from Achabal block violating the provisions,” complaint, a copy of which lies Early Times reads. “She hasn’t only floated and violated the norms but also indulged in cheating as such merits to be booked and penalized under relevant provisions of law,” it adds. A senior officer at Anantnag told Early Times that they had received a complaint against the DDC member and the procedure to send this complaint to competent authority was being followed. “This matter needs an investigation as norms don’t allow candidates from other districts to contest, “he said, however wished not to be named. On being contacted, DDC Achabal Sameena Hussain told Early Times that she resides at Thajiwara Achabal. On being asked about her marriage, she declined to comment and handed over the phone to her husband. “The matter is in court so we don’t want to comment,” Ishfaq Ahmad, her husband, told Early Times. Last year the Election Commission decided to take strict action against those filling wrong affidavits. Earlier in September 2018, the EC had also asked the central government to make filing a false affidavit a “corrupt practice” under electoral law after the Congress party approached the Commission over “incomplete information” furnished by home minister Amit Shah. |
