Jammu, Aug 7: Department of Pediatrics and Department of Gynae & Obst., Govt. Medical College, Jammu organized a seminar in SMGS Hospital, Jammu on the concluding day of World Breast Feeding week. Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with Department of Gynae & Obst., Government Medical College, Jammu observed Breast Feeding Week w.e.f. 1st of August 2021 to 7th of August 2021 in SMGS Hospital, Jammu. During these days activities i.e. awareness regarding benefits of Breast Feeding, counseling of mothers to encourage them for Breast Feeding and solve their queries regarding the same, were performed. On the concluding day of the programme i.e. on 07-08-2021 a seminar was held in SMGS Hospital, Jammu and Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean, Govt. Medical College, Jammu was the Chief Guest of the same. While speaking on this occasion she appreciated the initiative taken by both the Departments, especially, the daily awareness programme conducted by them during the whole Breast Feeding Week, during which they spread awareness to the mothers visiting this Hospital. Further, speaking on the occasion she stressed upon to follow the theme of the World Breast Feeding Week 2021 i.e. “Protect Breast Feeding: A shared responsibility”. Further, Head of Pediatrics Department, Professor Dr. Ghanshyam Saini while delivering the lecture on the occasion apprised the gathering about the importance of Breast Feeding and advised that it is very important that the mother should start Breast Feeding their new born immediately after the birth of the child as the first feed is very important for the immunity of the child. He made the masses aware about the importance of Breast Feeding especially during the Covid Pandemic. Further, Head of Gynae & Obst. Department, Professor Dr. Jyoti Hak also delivered a lecture regarding awareness amongst the young mothers and educated them regarding the techniques of correct Breast Feeding and also aware them that Covid Vaccination is safe for newly delivered mothers and they must get vaccinated for the same.
