Motivate your children to shun path of violence, join mainstream: GOC 15 Corps to militant families | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 31: Interacting with the family members of militants of south Kashmir district of Shopian to motivate their children to shun the path of violence, a senior Army on Tuesday said those who wanted to join the mainstream will be received with open arm and helped to start a fresh life, even if it means to send them outside for some years. This is for the first time in the three decade militancy any such meeting was held in the valley. General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps Lt General Devendra Pratap Pandey and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, K Vijay Kumar interacted with the families of active militants on the sideline of a sports function at Shopian. The main purpose of inviting you (militant family members) here was to assure you that even during encounters our utmost priority will be to save your children if they surrender. Even if we (security forces) are injured, we will not kill any militant if he surrender, the Lt Gen Pandey assured. I have requested GOC Victor Force to arrange my meeting with you to help your children to come back-how I donot know as it is your responsibility. He said let you motivate children (militants) to surrender without any announcement. Let them surrender before Army, police or any other agency they trust, Lt Gen Pandey said. There is a genuine apprehension that if any militant will surrender he and other family member will be targeted by other ultras of the group, he said adding that they will be provided every assistance and help to start a fresh life peacefully. Once your children will surrender, we are prepared to send them outside for two or four years before coming back. He will remain in your touch during that period, GOC said. He said these "white colour" militant leaders are motivating youth to took up the guns and target your family members. But I must said that nothing could be achieved by violence, he said. He shared an incident with family members that a top leader also wanted to allow a newly recruited youth to go and join family members. But, he said the leader had apprehension that once the youth surrender, police will question him and get information about their all hideouts since the youth was moving with him for the past three-four months, the GOC said. Similar situation was faced by the now leader some years ago when he joined the militancy and wanted to surrender. This is a cycle and we have to break it together, the GOC said. He said Kashmir is a very beautiful place and we have much to do here. But many families are not happy. I don't understand how to help you, he said and appealed them to motivate children to surrender. |
