‘J&K Admin adopting dilly-dally tactics to withdraw controversial Act’ | Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs deprived of buying or selling agricultural land | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 31: Criticising Jammu and Kashmir Administration for adopting dilly-dally tactics to withdraw controversial and discriminatory section 133-H of JK Land Revenue Act, which restricts Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities to purchase or sell agricultural land, the members of these communities on Tuesday sought LG Manoj Sinha’s intervention into the matter. “Even after 70 years of Independence of India, we are facing discrimination in the shape of Section 133-H of Land Revenue Act, which is sheer violation of our fundamental rights. New generation can’t buy or sell land,” said, Vinod Gupta and Rakesh Gupta. “There are some vested interests in the LG administration, who are creating huddles. This act is totally discriminatory in nature and needs to be amended,” said Rajan Gupta and Vikas Gupta. “BJP used to raise slogans that when it will come in power it will end discrimination being faced by the people of Jammu but nothing has been done to provide relief to these communities who are the permanent residents of this UT,” said Deepak Gupta. “The law came into force during Maharaja Hari Singh’s tenure but members of these communities were allowed to buy or sell few kanals of land during his rule. The law had become obsolete along with the passage of time. It is really shocking that this law has not been amended even after J&K’s conversion into a Union Territory,” he added. “The concerned department is creating obstacles despite the fact that in the present era everybody has equal rights and there is no need for such laws in the Land Revenue Act which deprives these communities from purchasing or selling the land,” Gupta said. |
