Forest Deptt conducts training programme on use of Chir Pine needles | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Sept 26: Sunderbani range of Nowshera Forest Division (FD) conducted a training programme for making the handicraft items using Chir Pine needles at Brevi. A village forest committee of Brevi has been selected for the pilot project of Chir Pine needle handicraft. Two Self Help Groups comprising of 10 women each have been constituted for the pilot project. The women of SHGs have prepared about 30 different items which were presented to Neelima Shah, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Nowshera. Earlier the Chir Pine needles were considered useless and it was also the major cause of forest fires. In order to minimize the fire incidences, the people living near the vicinity of forest are sensitized for the preparation of handicraft items as well as preparation of bio briquettes from the Pine needles. Addressing the women of SHGs, Neelima Shah said that these SHGs will be linked with market so that the project could become self sustainable and will become a livelihood source for the women of SHGs. She also said that one bio briquettes unit will be set up at Brevi so that the needles lying on the forest floor could be utilized for preparation of bio briquettes which will reduce the forest fire incidents in the future. Rakesh Verma, Range Officer Sunderbani said that these SHGs are trained by our master trainer who just have completed training in making of handicraft items from Chir Pine needles at Rajouri. More emphasis will be done on making the fine products with quality so that they can catch the market with good cost. The project is to be run under the direct supervision of Vivek Verma, Conservator of Forests West Circle Rajouri, Neelima Shah DFO Nowshera and Rakesh Verma Range Officer Sunderbani. |
