Early Times Report KATHUA, Sept 30: To commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli organized an essay writing competition on the theme "Relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's Philosophy in present time" under the aegis of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav". The event was organized under the patronage of the college Principal, Dr Nidhi Kotwal and supervised by Dr Shiv Kumar, Programme Officer, NSS unit of the college. The event commenced with the inaugural address by the college principal in which she recalled the four fundamental principles of Gandhi's life; Truth (satya), non-violence (ahimsa), welfare of all (sarvodaya) and peaceful protest (satyagraha). She urged the students to follow these principles and work together for the betterment of the nation. Afterward, Dr Kumar briefed the event and narrated the instructions and guidelines for the essay writing competition. Later, the competition was conducted in which 18 volunteers have participated and pen down their views on Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy. The event was adjudged by Dr Papinder Kumar, Dr Shiv Mangal, and Dr Jeevan Kumar and results revealed that Jahanvi Choudhary, Sem 2nd bagged the first position, whereas, Sandeep Kumar, Sem 2nd secured 2nd position, and Mona Thakur Sem 2nd stood at 3rd position. |
