RSS’s ‘Sewa Bharti’ saved poor people from starvation during peak of Corona in J&K | 663 centres were set up to distribute food, essential commodities to needy people | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 30: As two successive lockdowns hampered the life of the poor and the marginalized, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) cameforward to help through its offshoot—the ‘Sewa Bharti’. ‘Sewa Bharti’ has set up 663 centres across J-K to distribute cooked food, dry ration, and essential commodities to “break all stereotypes”. “India is densely populated and is facing hardships due to COVID-19. Jammu and Kashmir too is affected by this pandemic,” a RSS leader had stated at that time. He said that RSS workers were helping the poor and needy without “differentiating on the basis the caste, creed, culture, and religion”. Sewa Bharti played a major role in providing relief to the needy persons not only in the UT of J&K but also in the UT of Ladakh. Volunteers of RSS were the first to start relief material distribution among the affected people, which includes labourers from the various states, along with the poor people of the Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. 3,000 RSS workers served families by distributing relief material in J-K and Ladakh. Sewa Bharti had also sanitized nearly 2000 places in the city and various rural areas, including schools residential colonies, and religious places. Around five thousand packets of cooked food were provided to affected families and the organization is making 2000 masks daily at its various facilities. Sewa Bharti also provided three thousand security forces personnel with tea, juices, and biscuits daily. Another RSS leader had announced at that time that a general helpline desk has been established in every district of the UT for the convenience of people by the Sewa Bharti. |
