Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 3: As a mark of tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on Gandhi Jayanti, Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir BJP, Rekha Mahajan, felicitated local weaver couple Buta Ram and his wife. It was also a follow up of the call of PM to promote local weavers and strengthen efforts for a self -reliant India.
Pertinent to mention here that this year, the day coincides with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, which was inaugurated on March 12 by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on 91st anniversary of a significant event in Gandhi's Life, the Dandi March.
She was accompanied by District General Secretary Divya Jain, Sarojini Sharma & Leela Chhetri.
Rekha Mahajan, on this occasion, said that we should be vocal for handmade products and salute all those associated with our vibrant handloom and handicraft sectors. They have made commendable efforts to preserve the indigenous crafts of our nation. Time has come to recognize the contribution of the weavers of the country, she said.
Rekha further urged the people to spread information about these handloom and handicraft products around the world to benefit the local artisans. The more the world knows about our handlooms and handicrafts, the more our local artisans will be benefitted," she added.
The BJP leader said that Modi ji's appeal for "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" and "Vocal for Local" has given new life to the Khadi industry in India. Local items, especially Khadi, as it is also associated with our culture/ sanskriti.
She along with others present there also purchased items from these local weavers on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti to give push to " Vocal for Local".
