Rains expose Srinagar Smart City claims | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 23: Heavy rains lashing Srinagar on Saturday once again exposed the tall claims of the administration to turn it into a Smart City. Regal Chowk, considered as the heart of City centre Lal Chowk got inundated as the drainage system proved ineffective yet again. “Few days ago Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) carried out a drive in the city to paint the walls and roads and created hype about turning Srinagar into a Smart City. No attention was paid towards upgrading the drainage system,” said, a resident. It’s in place to mention here that the Meteorological Department had sounded a weather alert well in advance but the authorities have been once again caught napping. Another resident said, “The money which they wasted on painting walls and roads is taxpayers money. They should have used it for some constructive purpose rather than wasting it. The paint will wear out during the coming months. The so-called Smart City claims are a hoax.” |
