Multiple helplines for weather advisory, none exclusively for ‘panicked’ non-locals | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 23: Even as the non-local laborers are “bearing the brunt” of spike in civilian killings in Kashmir and scores of them are fleeing, the administration has been unable to start any exclusive helpline for them, the victims alleged. In the wake of bad weather, however, scores of helplines have been started across Kashmir. The police of various districts in Kashmir have launched separate helplines. “HELPLINE NUMBERS OF SHOPIAN POLICE IN VIEW OF INCESSANT RAINFALL/SNOW. PCR Spn9596768831, SHO Spn 9596768826 SHO Keller 9596768828 SHO Hurpora 9596768829 SHO Imamsahib 9596768853 SHO Znp 9596768827 DO wachi 9596768830 DO Keegam9596768852 @JmuKmrPolice @KashmirPolice @DigSkr,” reads an official tweet. Other districts have started similar helplines. But even as the non locals have facing threat to their life since the spike in “target killings in Kashmir, no such exclusive helpline has been started for them.” The non locals told Early Times that administration hasn’t even released an advisory for their security stay in Kashmir. “We have not been informed about any dos and don’ts,” said a delegation of non-local laborers “facing problems in Kashmir.” It’s pertinent to mention that as many as five non locals have been shot dead by militants in Kashmir in the recent past. Observers said the administration should have started special helplines for the non-locals. “It was mandatory for the administration to have started a helpline for the panicked non-locals so that anyone in distress could get instant response from the government, but things are not in place in the administration,” said an official on the condition of anonymity. A police official said the department has recently launched a special helpline for anyone in distress and that even the non locals could contact that. “Kashmir Police established a toll-free helpline at PCR Kashmir. Anyone can feel free to call on 1800-180-7193 (24x7) in case of any exigency or assistance,” the official said. But the civil administration has allegedly not come up with any such helpline especially the one dedicated for the non locals. On October 17, two non-local labourers were gunned down by terrorists in Wanpoh area of Kulgam district. Another grievously wounded labourer was being treated for multiple injuries. The incident was the third attack on non-locals in Kashmir in two days. A street vendor from Bihar was killed in the Eidgah area of Srinagar a day before the incident. A carpenter from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh was killed at Litter in Pulwama district on the same day. So far, 11 people have been killed in targeted attacks in Kashmir, including five hailing from other states in the recent past. |
