KVK Reasi promotes organic turmeric, ginger cultivation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 24: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Reasi under the aegis of the Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) is promoting the organic turmeric and ginger cultivation in the monkeys affected areas of Reasi district so that the income of the farmers can be enhanced. The KVK Reasi scientists are technically guiding and encouraging the farmers for the commercial cultivation of organic turmeric and ginger so that chemicals free turmeric and ginger can be produced. The KVK scientists are guiding the farmers for the preparation of organic formulations such as cow urine, Panchgavya, beejamrit, jeevamrit, matka khad, fermented butter milk ,vermin-compost etc. They have been suggested to use Neem Oil, Neem Cake, organic fungicides, manures etc. to produce the organic turmeric and ginger. Farmers are continuously guided on the organic management of diseases, insect-pests and nutrients in turmeric and ginger. All these practices are useful to increase the quality of the produce at the minimum cost. Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal said that farmers of some areas of the district face serious threats because of monkeys menace as they spoil their many crops and thus directly affect their income. According to him organic turmeric and ginger cultivation have immense potential in the area and these crops are not affected by the monkeys. He said that district Reasi has huge potential in organic turmeric and ginger and farmers should grow organic turmeric and ginger of commercial level so that their income and employment can be enhanced. According to him organic turmeric and ginger are helpful to improve the health status of human beings by improving the immunity of the body. He added that value addition in turmeric and ginger can add the income of the farmers. He narrated that organic farming is helpful in the production of safe and quality food by reducing the cost of cultivation. Many new farmers are showing keen interest in organic turmeric and ginger cultivation. |
