Deadly waterlogging, power outages expose ‘poor governance’ before Amit Shah
‘Modi Govt must inquire what Babus did to multi-core funding’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 24: Massive waterlogging and power outages in the twin capitals on the day Union Home Minister, Amit Shah arrived here on the three-day visit on October 23 has seemingly exposed how the administration has spend hundreds of crores given by New Delhi under various projects in the last three years.
When the Home Minister was reviewing security situation in Kashmir, some of the prominent localities in Jammu city were inundated exposing the allegedly poor drainage.
Basmati crop in RS Pura area suffered major loss due to hailstorm but the administration is yet announce relief for the poor farmers, the victims said.
In Srinagar, SKIMS Bemina, a leading government hospital in same Srinagar city, was busy with evacuation of the ground floor. Mere few hours of rains had left the hospital campus inundated. A old man, on the other, slipped to death in an under construction drain in Natipora locality. At SMHS Hospital, wooden planks had to be put in place to facilitate movement of visitors and doctors.
The power department admitted about breakdown. “If electricity hasn’t been restored in your area. Do update us with area name and DT (Transformer name). @DCAnantnag @KPDCLOfficial @cekpdcl,” said the officials posted in Anantnag district,” a social media post said.
As the videos and pictures of such incidents went viral, the people questioned how the bureaucrats had spent hundreds of crores granted by New Delhi under various projects like the Smart City project.
“View #SmartCity turned in 2 pond,” posted a Jammuite on Twitter seeking intervention of the Modi government into public complaints of alleged misgovernance.
“The money has been misused and Modi government must probe it. Recently smart city funds were used to paint cartoons on the main road near Lal Chowk and the same colors got washed away within days,” said a civic activist in Srinagar.
A municipal corporator Aqib Rinzu took to social media to take dig at the alleged misgovernance. He said it was a “bitter truth” that officials in Srinagar Municipal Corporation “destroyed Srinagar” adding that “there was no visible development in Smart city project.”
The residents of south City areas said on the eve of the Home minister’s visit there was no electricity throughout the night in areas fed by Rawalpor grid.
“If mild showers on the day when the Honorable Home Minister Amit Shah Ji visits Kashmir leave major roads and even hospitals inundated even in the city, the scene civic administration can only be imagined,” said an observer.
It’s pertinent to mention that while the administration in Jammu and Kashmir has already come under scanner for allegedly failing to handle the security issues, even the civic issues don’t seem to be place.
“Modi government must make babus accountable on how crores of rupees were used in the garb of smart city funding because Babu raaj is ruining Jammu and Kashmir,” said some locals.
