CCI appeals government to assess, compensate losses of farmers | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 25: Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI), Jammu, expressed grave concern over the damages caused due to incessant rains in parts of the Jammu region, seeking immediate compensation to the farmers whose standing crops have been damaged. In this regard, an urgent meeting was held under the chairmanship of its President Arun Gupta along with the office bearers Anil Gupta, senior Vice President, Rajeev Gupta, junior Vice President, Gaurav Gupta, Secretary General, Rajesh Gupta, Secretary and Rajesh Gupta, Treasurer in which threadbare discussions were held on the losses suffered by farmers. Arun said that the incessant rains have hugely damaged the standing crops. He sought deputation of an empowered team of revenue and agriculture officers to carry out the survey at ground zero, saying the recent hailstorm too has created havoc with the farm produce. He said that the hard toil of farmers stand ruined and they have nothing to look for, except assistance from the government. Arun requested the revenue authorities to make comprehensive assessment of losses and also appealed to the concerned authorities to release preliminary relief in terms of free rations and financial assistance till a survey is conducted to ascertain the actual losses. The Jammu Chamber also strongly condemned the celebration of Pakistan’s victory in the T-20 cricket match held between India and Pakistan in several parts of Kashmir region. |
