Tara Chand demands compensation for damaged crops | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 25: Former deputy chief minister of Jammu & Kashmir and senior Congress leader, Tara Chand, has demanded immediate compensation to farmers, who suffered huge loss due to heavy downpour and hailstorm in the last two days. In a press communiqué issued here, Tara said that the heavy rainfall and hailstorm has incurred huge loss to the paddy crop which was to be harvested soon. He said that the farmers are dependent on their crops as it is the only source of income for them and as their crops stands damaged fully, it is the duty of the administration to compensate them. Tara who personally visited various villages today and took stock of the damages occurred to the standing crops due to hailstorm and torrential rains. He said that the hailstorm has damaged the standing paddy crops of farmers badly and urged upon the administration of J&K to provide adequate compensation to them. He appealed the administration to prepare a detailed report of the damage to the crops and compensate them fully so that they and their families may not suffer any more. He also appealed to the Government of India to provide adequate funds to J&K for compensation to the farmers so that their losses can be minimized to certain extent.
