Compensate crop losses of farmers, DSS Kissan Cell urges govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 25: Seeing the deplorable crop damages in Jammu region by unprecedented hailstorm and heavy rains, and confirming the same damages at various other places, Th. K P Singh, Chairman DSS Kissan Cell stated that nearly 100% crop damages have occurred in Jammu region. It has broken the back of the Jammu farmers and left them sulking at their fate. It is nothing less than a disaster for them like what happens in the Coastal areas after cyclonic storms, he maintained. Hence this time they deserve a benevolent compensation and reassurances from the govt so that they don’t feel neglected and disheartened after this calamity and remain bold and steadfast to face any other such disaster, he added. Expressing concerns and serious fears over the unbearable crop losses, K P Singh, urged the UT Govt to assess the damages at fast speed and give on the spot compensation to the effected farmers. Expressing full faith in the current UT govt’s concern for public, it is expected that farmers’ woes are heard with compassion and attended to sympathetically. Chairman Kissan Cell also reiterated that farming is a costly affair for the farmers. They buy/pay for every agriculture activity and inputs related to the farming activity. Hence their expenses should be fully paid besides compensation for livelihood with subsidy for the next crop. This is the minimum public expectation from the UT govt particularly after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Jammu visit assuring all round development and empowerment of Jammu, he said. |
