Kashmir situation improves after Amit Shah’s visit | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 6: After a spike in the civilian killings in restive Kashmir in October, the four-day visit of the Home Minister Amit Shah has brought a perceptible improvement in the situation. Sources said the series of security related meetings that were chaired by Shah himself in Kashmir during the visit to the union Territory have started to bear fruit as no untoward incident of civilian killing was reported from the valley since he left. It was reliably learnt that Shah chaired atleast three security related meetings in Kashmir while similar events were held in Jammu as well. Sources said Shah has told Raj Bhawan to provide “full support” to the police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in combating the militancy. It was reliably learnt that it was after the meeting chaired by Amit Shah that the administration has decided to give out more of government accommodation to the paramilitary CRPF in the summer capital and elsewhere in the valley on priority. Sources said that the CPRF had complained of shortage of accommodation for additional companies of the paramilitary in Kashmir and that on it Shah responded with all concern. While some government owned community halls are being given out for the accommodation of additional companies of the paramilitary force, the JKP has been asked to beef up its grid of flying squad vehicles. Sources said around two dozen more makeshift bunkers have raised in Srinagar alone whereas as similar strategy was being adopted across major towns in Kashmir. “We have been asked not to leave any sensitive spots without security and thus as a part of the same procedure more security points are being established with all precision,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity. It’s pertinent to mention that last month as many as thirteen civilians, most of whom were non-Muslims and non-locals were killed by militants in separate incidents. Amit Shah during his visit had spoken tough against militancy and had got his bulletproof removed from the podium where he addressed a public gathering here “to restore sense of security among the people.” |
