Early Times Report

R S PURA, Nov 24: DDC member Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has raised the issue of promoting border tourism and developing Gharana wetland on the pattern of Bharatpur sanctuary which could impact the life of people in a big way by enhancing their socio-economic condition. In a statement, Tony said that Gharana wetland is a significant place where over 70 species of avian family converges annually and the place could be developed as major tourist attraction besides becoming the favourite transit point for the guest birds. He said that the time is ripe that government should focus on the development of this border belt with maximum stress on making Gharana wetland the paradise for the bird lovers of the country as the same has many distinct features but the indifference of the successive governments has dashed the hopes of the people as well as the birds which travel thousands of miles to reach this bordering patches along India-Pakistan border. Tony said that government should give jobs and alternate land chunks to those families which will be affected due to development of this project as the same holds much significance in improving the economic status of the people of the area besides economy of the entire Jammu region. He said that people are not interested in getting money rather they are demanding swapping of land in the nearby Choroi farm which government should readily agree as the project is of international importance and is a must for biodiversity conservation.
