Mir hits back at Azad loyalists | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 24: After maintaining silence for the last one week, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir on Wednesday hit back at loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad for using ‘derogatory’ language against him in a rally at Dyalachak in Hiranagar. Mir also made it clear that announcing the chief ministerial face of the party for the coming assembly elections in J&K is purely a prerogative of the Congress high command. While tendering en-mass resignations from positions of the party, loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad have demanded that the party should announce Azad as Congress’s chief ministerial face for the coming assembly elections. Further, they have also demanded that full command of J&K Congress should be given to Azad to fight the coming polls. During a rally at Dyalachak in Kathua district, some loyalists of Azad raised a banner of revolt against Mir and declared that they would not accept him (Mir) as party president anymore. Azad loyalists further asked the party high command to declare Ghulam Nabi Azad as the chief ministerial candidate of Congress for coming assembly polls in J&K. In the presence of Azad, his loyalists minced no words in slamming Mir for his failure to manage the affairs of Congress in J&K. “A party leader, who had used rough language against me, has remained as an MLA and also served as minister in the government”, Mir said and added that the former minister should maintain his dignity before using such language in a public rally. On announcing the chief minister’s candidate, he said party high command will decide on the chief ministerial face of Congress in coming assembly elections. “There is nothing wrong in demanding some person as a chief ministerial candidate but a decision in this regard would be taken by high command only”, Mir said while reacting to the demand of Azad loyalists. Pointing towards allegations leveled by Azad loyalists, Mir said that there are party forums to highlight grievances. “I came to know about such grievances of some leaders only through media”, he said while pointing towards a letter of Azad, which has gone viral on social media. |
