LG Sinha to get new Advisor soon | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 24: The government is contemplating to appoint a new Advisor in Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days as only two such appointees have been at the helm for the last over a month. Sources say New Delhi is in touch with the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to make the selection of the “most appropriate face for the assignment.” Sources said the government is interested to appoint a former IAS officer as the Advisor. Sources said while some other names are also being discussed in the corridors of power, “there’s more of likelihood that the former civil services official will be taken up for the job.” It’s pertinent to mention that at the moment Jammu and Kashmir has only two Advisors since the disengagement of Baseer Ahmed Khan.” While no reason was cited, an order issued by J&K’s General Administration Department on October 6 had said: “Pursuant to communication… of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Shri Baseer Ahmad Khan (retired IAS 2000) is hereby relieved from the post of Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect.” Khan was appointed adviser to Lt Governor G C Murmu in March 2020 and continued to hold the office under Murmu’s successor Sinha. Most prominent of the three advisers of the Lt Governor, Khan had held the key portfolios of Power Development, Rural Development, Relief and Reconstruction, Culture, Tourism, Planning and Industries and Commerce. With his departure, Lt Governor Sinha is left with two advisers – Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar and Farooq Khan. Prior to the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir , the then state had four Advisors during the tenure of Satya Pal Malik as the Governor. Observers said in the absence of elected government the Advisors have a key role to play in deliverance of governance. |
