Ashok Koul’s ‘valuable’ suggestions to Azad raise many eyebrows

Jammu, Nov 24: Ashok Koul, general secretary (organization) of J&K unit of BJP on Wednesday gave ‘valuable’ suggestions to Congress stalwart and former chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Koul suggested former leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad to accept the ground reality before announcing his future political decision.
“It is a reality that Congress is almost finished across the country including Jammu and Kashmir so before taking any political decision Ghulam Nabi Azad must keep this truth in his mind”, Ashok Koul told the media at South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Koul was in Anantnag in connection with a district-level meeting as a follow-up exercise of the state executive council meeting held at Jammu last week.
Lavishing praise on Azad, Koul said, “Ghulam Nabi Azad has not only served J&K as chief minister but he also remained as senior minister at the Centre for years together”.
“Ghulam Nabi Azad is not only a Congress leader but he is one of the prominent leaders of the country”, Koul said.
Koul said that all Congress leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ghulam Ahmed Mir are very much aware that their party's base is eroding in all parts of the country including J&K.
The timing of BJP leader Ashok Koul’s statement on Ghulam Nabi Azad is significant because during the last week internal strike in J&K Congress has been intensified. The majority of the loyalists of Azad have already submitted their resignations from posts and positions of the Congress Party.
Stepping up attack on J&K Congress chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir, loyalists of Azad have been demanding that he (Azad) should be given full command of Congress in Union Territory (UT) before assembly elections.
Earlier Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had praised Ghulam Nabi Azad during his farewell speech for Ghulam Nabi Azad in the Rajya Sabha in February this year.
Prime Minister said that “he respects the Congress leader as a true friend and will not let him retire, and will continue taking his advice”.
Modi said it would be difficult for Azad’s successor in the Rajya Sabha to match him as he has set very high standards as an MP and as the Leader of the Opposition.
“One thing I would like to say about Mr. Azad that the next LoP will have a difficult time in matching his work because he was not only concerned about his party but also about the country and the House,” said the PM.
“I would not let you retire, will continue taking your advice,” the Prime Minister said in a tearful farewell to Mr. Azad in the Upper House.
