Rajouri, Nov 26: Goons attacked a journalist in this frontier district after he tried to expose the misappropriations in the Food and Civil Supplies Department. According to the details available journalist Mohammed Abid Qayoom associated with Early News portal was attacked after he tried to uncover the alleged nexus between a ration dealer and the officials of the department. The locals had complained about a Food and Civil Supplies ration dealer Mohammad Shabir that he owns other ration shops illegally. Based on this input, journalist Qayoom reached on the spot to ascertain the facts and after verifying the first ration shop of the accused, when he reached the other shop, the sons and relatives of the accused started beating the brave journalist mercilessly. He sustained serious injuries in the attack. The mobile phone, news mic Id, identity card and at least Rs 20000 were snatched from Abid. After finding the journalist in unconscious condition, the local drivers of the area shifted him to GMC Rajouri, where the victim is undergoing treatment. The incident has put a question mark on the safety of scribes in J&K. When contacted, Additional Superintendent of Police, Vivek Shekhar said that an FIR has been registered against the culprits under the relevant sections of IPC. |
