Early Times Report

JAMMU, Dec 13: International theatre director is to conduct theatre workshop from December 15. UK based theatre director, writer and actor Aarushi Thakur Rana will be the workshop director. This was informed by Director Natrang, Balwant Thakur while inviting young theatre enthusiasts of Jammu to avail this golden opportunity to get trained from internationally trained and experienced mentors.
Balwant said that because of the corona crisis, all the training/practice opportunities were stalled which caused an adverse effect on the performing arts and significant endeavors like this workshop would definitely play an important role in rejuvenating the theatre art scene of Jammu & Kashmir.
He informed that Aarushi is a professional theatre director, writer and actor based in the United Kingdom. Her directorial debuts have been performed in the most prestigious Nehru Centre, London, Mayfair, Zoroastrian Centre, London in 2019 and Kala Ghoda Arts festival, Mumbai in 2018, at Tagore Hall Chandigarh in 2018 and at the Kingdom of Dreams, Delhi in 2017. She has for far written and directed more than 30 full-length plays and acted and produced 300 plays which have been performed both nationally and internationally in Russia, Germany, London and India.
For more than 10 years, she has worked on plays that highlight issues in our society like, depression, body-shamming, PCOS disorder, women rights, domestic violence and child abuse. She has worked with women in the Indo-Pak border and used theatre as a tool for self-development and conflict resolution. In 2014, she was awarded the young woman achiever award by the then Deputy Commissioner of Jammu & Kashmir for her contribution in theatre. In the year 2016, she was awarded the first youth innovation award given by Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust. In 2017, she was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the first lady of Northern Naval command for my latest play ‘In Her Shoes’ which was performed at Navy Nagar, Mumbai. She was also awarded a certificate of appreciation at Amritsar for the same show. In 2018 on International Women’s Day, she was awarded the ‘She Inspires’ award at the UK Parliament for my contribution to Theatre and arts. In 2019, she was awarded the ‘She Awards’ on International Women’s Day for her contribution in theatre.
