Srinagar, Dec 13: Former J&K chief minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Monday said that those in Jammu who celebrated abrogation of Articles 370 and 35-A are asking the government what change it has bought after revoking the special status of the erstwhile state. Addressing a one day workers convention in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, Omar said the tall claims by the Central Government that everything would be alright after abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, nothing has changed, the situation on the ground is just the opposite. “Even those people in Jammu who celebrated abrogation of J&K’s special status are questioning the government,” he added. He said, “All measures on the grassroots level had a negative impact leaving people frustrated and hopeless”. Omar said, “I have worked with the Prime Minister who extended a hand of friendship to Pakistan from the soil of Kashmir and said friends can be changed but neighbors cannot be changed, and I proudly said that the people of Kashmir had a great honor for him”. “I had worked with the Prime Minister who had said that the Kashmir issue would be settled on the basis of humanity, democracy and Kashmiriyat, '' Omar said. And added Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road was opened for trade and the Prime Minister extended hand of friendship from the soil of Kashmir ''. He said “the present BJP government has ruined humanity and destroyed democracy in Kashmir”. He said unity and consensus among the political parties is essential and added the National Conference has made tremendous sacrifices for the Gupkar Alliance. “New Delhi was not happy with the alliance between the political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, he said and added the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was not their choice and they wanted any way this alliance could shutter and succeed in”. |
