Clean India Drive organized by GDC Paloura concludes | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Dec 24: Govt Degree College (GDC) Paloura organized fifteen-day long Cleanliness Drive under “Clean India Programme” to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The programme was aimed at cleaning and preservation of water bodies, performing of Maha Aartis and paying tribute to Unsung Heroes of Freedom Struggle. The NSS volunteers carried out cleanliness drive in the adjoining villages of Mishriwala, Domana and Kangar. The NSS volunteers also carried out cleaning of Ranbir Canal, Jiya Pota Ghat of River Chenab, Bawe Talab and ponds near Kangar village with the involvement of local peoples. The students also carried out Arti on the Ghats of river Chenab and Bawe Talab. Under this initiative, the NSS volunteers created awareness, mobilized local people and ensured their involvement in reducing single use plastic and cleaning of water bodies. On the concluding day of the Clean India Drive, the NSS volunteers organized programme on the theme “Aazadi Ke Parwane” to pay tribute to unsung heroes of freedom struggle. NSS volunteers through role plays, orations and poetry highlighted the contribution of great freedom fighters like Khudi Ram Bose, Tara Rani, Kartar singh Durgavati, Birsa Munde etc. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ramneek Kaur, Principal of the College, lauded the efforts of NSS volunteers in carrying out cleanliness drive of water bodies and the adjoining area. She also impressed upon everyone to act responsibly to save and preserve nature, and as good citizens it is our duty to make our country neat and clean. The whole programme was organized by NSS unit of the College and was coordinated by Dr. Shivani Sharma, NSS Programme Officer.
