Make Covid Tests Simple
1/18/2022 11:23:03 PM

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 spreading like wildfire has left people worried. Anyone having slight symptoms is rushing to get him/herself tested. But the rush at the government run testing facilities is terrifying.
Instead of setting up separate counters for conducting Covid tests the administration has opted for a single window sample collection system.
The huge rush of people amid chaos prevalent at the health centers has become another cause of worry for the people. The mismanagement at multi-levels for Rapid Antigen and RTPCR testing are emerging perhaps as the best examples of how the government is tackling the 3rd wave of COVID in Jammu.
Poor facilities and people being made to wait in long queues have made the simple testing process complex. It seems that the administration is inventing new ways to infect the people.
According to the experts the Omicron variant is mild and the people who get infected don’t need to get hospitalized. They can be managed at home. If that’s the case then the government should ensure that getting tested doesn’t become a Herculean task. The way the virus is behaving has made one thing clear that even if a person gets infected, he can be managed as the severity of the virus is not that alarming. But getting tested holds the key. This process needs to be simplified and the helmsmen should devise a proper mechanism to ensure that people don’t suffer in order to get themselves tested. The Covid third wave seems in no mood to spare anyone as cases are increasing rampantly. On Tuesday 4651 more people tested positive for the virus. The peak is yet to come and it may take more than a month for things to settle down.
Till then the administration needs to be prepared to tackle the situation on a day to day basis. Getting people tested in a proper way is basic and it needs to be followed without violating the Covid Sops.
Experts are of the opinion that after the third wave ends the Covid would enter into an endemic stage as the virus has weakened and people are on their way to acquire herd immunity. The prevailing crisis could be the last test of patience for the people. Fingers are crossed and everyone is hoping that the pandemic will end soon.
