Those who left PDP are now knocking party’s door to return: Mehbooba
1/18/2022 11:25:13 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 18: Former Chief Minister and President of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that a number of leaders, who had quitted the party, are against knocking door to return.
“Those who have left the party during the crucial time are now trying to return in PDP because they have realized that they were befooled by some forces”, Mehbooba Mufti said but made it clear that she will not take back those leaders who have left the party during the crucial moment.
Pointing towards the party leader from R S Pura, Bhushan Lal Dogra who is recently returned to PDP, she said that Dogra is a gentle politician so he was allowed to return to the party.
Bhushan Lal Dogra, who had contested the 2014 assembly election on the mandate of PDP was runner up on the seat leaving behind Congress candidate.
Realizing the potential of Dogra, late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had nominated him as vice chairman of the Scheduled Castes Advisory Board with the status of Minister of State (MoS).
When PDP was passing through a crucial time, Dogra followed other opportunist leaders and left the party to join BJP. Last month Dogra rejoined PDP in the presence of Mehbooba Mufti.
The majority of the senior leaders of the party have left PDP after the imposition of the Governor’s rule in J&K.
In the month of June 2018 , PDP had five MPs (three Lok Sabha, two Rajya Sabha members) 28 MLAs, and 14 MLCs in its kitty. There was also a strong grass-root level organization structure of the party at that time but as of now only a couple of former legislators are left within the party.
Mehbooba Mufti said that she is not taking back those leaders who have deserted the party even though many of them are willing to return.
Dozens of senior PDP leaders including former ministers and legislators left the party after the BJP withdrew its support to the Mehbooba-led coalition government in July 2018 and most of them joined the Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari or the Peoples Conference led by Sajjad Lone.
“I have made it a principle that those who have left us will not be taken back. Many of the leaders who deserted the party are eager to return but I am not going to take them back,” Mehbooba said addressing a function at party headquarters here.
