Srinagar-Jammu National Highway closed | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 23: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, was closed for vehicular traffic on Sunday owing to snowfall at Qazigund sector in south Kashmir and landslides at various places. About five inches of snow has accumulated at Qazigund near Jawahar Tunnel, and it was still snowing there, a traffic police official said. Landslides, mudslides and shooting of stones also occurred at Cafeteria mode, Duggi Pulli and other places on the highway. The men and machines from the Border Roads Organisation responsible for the maintenance of the highway have been pressed into service to clear the road, he added. "Traffic update: Jammu-Srinagar NHW blocked due to mudslides/shooting stones at many places and Mughal road, SSG road, & Sinthan road closed for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation," a traffic police tweet said. The one way traffic was permitted for light motor vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar on Sunday. |
