Basantgarh jungles face extinction threat, forest officials turn blind eye | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 2: Forests in Basantgarh area are at the verge of extinction as the Forest Department officials are allegedly allowing smugglers to indulge in loot. A social activist Shankardas while talking to Early Times said, "The forests have been turned barren due to haphazard cutting carried out by the forest smugglers. We have approached the concerned officials on many occasions but no one has paid any attention towards our pleas." He said, "It's unfortunate that smugglers are looting the green gold and the officials are hand in glove with them. They just turning a blind eye towards the loot is an ample proof of the fact that they have complete knowledge about what's happening around them." Shankardas said, "It's sad that no one wants to pay attention towards our requests. We are not asking for any personal favour. It's the duty of the Forest Department to protect the environment." |
