Rajouri: Sudden spike in jaundice cases puts question mark on potable water quality

Rajouri, Feb 14: In a shocking situation of deteriorating quality of potable water in Jawahar Nagar area of District Rajouri, more than two dozen cases of jaundice were reported within a span of a few days. After sudden spike in jaundice cases were reported the district the station immediately swung into action and pressed chief medical officer into the job.
The situation has reminded the people of Covid-19 pandemic which has struck fear in the minds of the people. The Chief Medical Officer after assessing the situation said that jaundice is a waterborne disease and the sudden increase in the number of cases of the disease indicate that the water quality has deteriorated. She further urged the people to take precaution I want to take drink water only of RO Filters or after boiling it.
The locals said that the concerned departments do not check the quality of the water and the water supplied in Dist Rajouri is the worst in the state. The further said that the health and lives of the people is not a priority for PHE Department and said that lives of the people is at stake. They further said that even the water supply to restaurants is not checked and the food items prepared in restaurants and dhabas is also offers quality as far as Water purity is concerned.
When contacted, Executive Engineer (PHE) Mushtaq Choudhary said that the water tanks are purified on a regular basis and chlorine is used. He further said that after all the checks and measures, the water is supplied.
The District Administration has done a commendable job as it immediately swung into action in a short time. As per initial report received from the chief medical officer, a team of healthcare workers has already been deployed for a line listing of suspected cases and to ascertain the source of cause of the infection moreover the Executive Engineer PHE has been asked for chlorination and cleaning of water resources.
