Day after incident, JK admin wakes up to pay homage to braveheart soldiers
2/20/2022 11:29:47 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 20: Even as the administration of Jammu and Kashmir continues to be busy with celebrations of sorts and doesn’t miss to make celebratory comments, it yet again seemingly forgot to pay “timely tributes” to the two Indian Army soldiers, who lost their lives fighting terrorism in Shopian on February 19.
The Twitter handle of the Jammu and Kashmir government, which otherwise promptly pay tributes to men in uniform or even civilians, who sacrifice their lives for the country, reacted to the Shopian tragedy only a day after the incident to pay homage.
On Saturday, two soldiers were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Shopian. A militant was also killed in the exchange of fire that started after a joint team of forces launched a military operation against the militants.
Defence sources identified the slain soldiers as Santosh Yadav and Chavan Romit Tanaji. Both the slain soldiers were sepoys of the 1 Rashtriya Rifles (RR). But the J&K admin reacted a day later.
Ironically, on the day when soldiers lost their lives, the official Twitter handle didn’t forget to congratulate the class 10th qualifiers. “Heartiest congratulations to all my young friends, who have passed JKBOSE class 10th Annual Regular examinations- 2021, Winter Zone, Jammu Div. Compliments to their parents, teachers & @jkboseofficial,” said the Twitter handle of the J&K government.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has been accused of being so busy with musical concerts and other festivities that it even “forgets” the official protocol towards the bravehearts.
Last year in October when five Indian Army soldiers were killed in a gunfight in Poonch area of Jammu, the top brass of the civil administration was missing at the wreath laying ceremony. On the contrary, the J&K administration had held celebrations of a public event on the same day in the same district.
Forget the common people, who are complaining of “corruption and maladministration”, even some senior officials in the Civil Secretariat have been seeking intervention of the Modi government into the “state of administrative affairs in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Last month the Republic Day, the Department of Information and Public Relations had offended the nation by terming the unfurling of tricolor as hosting of tricolor. “It was criminal negligence but no action was initiated against the sufarshi babu on deputation who is calling the shots at the cost of national ethics,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
“What message does it send when the top office in the Jammu and Kashmir administration reacts to the sacrifice of the bravehearts of the Indian Army only a day after the incident. Are our soldiers not in the priority list,” asked the official.
