GMC Jammu: 12-year old boy undergoes leg surgery, dies of constipation; family accuses medicos of negligence | 'If it's a government hospital why people are asked to buy surgical items from a specific shop at Amphala?' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 22: A family of a 12-year old boy, Inderjeet Singh who died at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu on Monday morning have alleged that the boy died due to medical negligence. Father of the deceased while talking to a local news channel said, “My son had fractured his leg in Ramban and was referred to Jammu on February 12. His surgery was performed on February 15 and he was recovering.” He said, “My son last night complained of stomach pain. We approached the nurse who abused my wife and told her to take him to emergency. No doctor came to see him from 10 pm to 2 pm. By the time doctors could attend to him it was too late.” Another family member said, “We had never imagined that he would die. He had complained of constipation earlier but was treated and he became alright. But this time around the doctors and paramedical staff ignored our pleas. Had they provided him the treatment in time, he would not have died.” He said before the surgery they were told to get surgical items worth Rs 16000 from a shop at Amphala. “We want to ask why we were sent to Amphala where there are no shops nearby? And if it’s a government hospital why do people have to buy medicines from an open market,” the family member said. ‘There is big nexus going on within the hospital and patients are tortured on the name of treatment,” said father, who is a Specail Police Officer in JK Police, of the deceased boy Inderjeet Singh. “We had brought him for treatment to Jammu but we are carrying his body back,” he added. |
