BIs conducts Rural outreach programmein village Khanpur | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, Mar 15: BIS Jammu & Kashmir branch office conducted rural outreach programme on “Upholding Consumer Rights” in Kishanpur Village of Block Barnoti in Kathua. Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution is observing “Consumer Empowerment Week” During 14-20 March 2022 to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The objective of the outreach programme was to create awareness among the villagers especially the young generation about various initiatives of interest to the local populace like National Consumer Helpline (NCH), features of consumer Protection Act 2019, BIS Standards, details to be seen on pre-packaged commodities, use of ISI marked household things such as pressure cooker, gas stove, helmets, purchase of hallmarked jewellery and use of proper weights and measures. More than 100 villagers participated in the programme. Satyadeo Lal, Head BIS JKBO informed about the important features of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 which has been implemented from 20 July 2020. The Act provides safety to consumers regarding defective products, dissatisfactory services, and unfair trade practices. He apprised the participants about rights of consumers and role of BIS in protecting them through formulation of Indian Standards, Conformity Assessment and Consumer Redressal. |
